camping southern California - big skies at Joshua Tree
Joshua Tree National Park is a fantastic state park to go camping in southern California. The orange sculpted boulders, sand and Joshua trees make a stunning landscape, especially at sunset when the colors truly come alive and it can look like you are on Mars.
There are 9 camp grounds in Joshua Tree National Park. Our favorite camp grounds are the smallest two...Belle Campground and White Tank Campground.
The picturesque campsites are set amongst big orange boulders, Mojave yucca trees and Joshua trees. We stayed at White Tank as there were less people there than at Belle, when we visited.
If you are camping with horses, there are 2 horse camping grounds at Black Rock Campground and Ryan Campground. There are also 253 miles of equestrian trails at Joshua Tree National Park.
