Nevada camping - free rv camping only 1.5 hours from Las Vegas
Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge is a fabulous free camp ground....right on a beautiful lake backed by hills.
The camp ground forms part of a 5,380 acre area of lakes, desert and scrub owned by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, set up to provide habitat for migratory birds. An oasis in the desert, Pahranagat (meaning "a valley of shining waters") was named by the Paiute Indians.
Although hunting and boating are allowed at the Wildlife Refuge, they are not allowed at this particular lake, so it is a peaceful place to be. Apart from the road...this unfortunately runs close to the camp ground. But it really didn’t deter from our enjoyment of this beautiful spot...watching the water fowl on the lake as it turned orange, then pink from the setting sun falling behind the hills.
free rv camping in the wilderness but you can be in Las Vegas for breakfast!
What was really great for us, was that we got up at sunrise and walked around the lake watching all the birds. Then hopped in the van and drove to Las Vegas for a big breakfast. Two totally different worlds.
A wild camping ground that is a great place to stay the night before you head to the craziness of Vegas.
Note:
There is no water at Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge.
