WHAT MAKES IT REAL?

LOCATION...

New Zealand Camping Queenstown (Moke Lake)

Moke Lake is an absolutely stunning location for a camp ground. You camp right on the shore, with majestic mountains rising up all around. The view in the above photo is of the actual camp ground (taken on the walk that goes around the lake)...pretty awesome eh?

The water is beautifully clear, but cold. Great for a cooling dip in the summer.

There are 2 really nice walks from this Department of Conservation campground - a loop walk of 2.5 hours and a walk to Lake Dispute of 2.45 hours.

What I really liked about camping at Moke Lake is that you can park up anywhere along the shore...so you can find your own little private camping site amongst the bushes.

New facilities were erected at the end of 2011. We were in a tent and so really appreciated the covered cooking area, which had sinks and lots of counter top space.

There are some sandflies here, but not too bad.

New Zealand Camping Queenstown (Moke Lake DOC Campground)

Moke Lake Road is 6km from Queenstown. The campground is approx 8km along Moke Lake Road. When Moke Lake Road forks (this is also where it becomes unsealed), take the right fork (over the cattle grid). The end of the road is the campground.

We based ourselves here for our activities in Queenstown. Although, the campground isn't in the town, it is close enough to the action, but a world away from it at the same time.
