WHAT MAKES IT REAL?

LOCATION...

Yellowstone camping

This Yellowstone National Park camping ground is really special. It is in a stunning valley that is full with wandering bison.

We came here at 8.30am (we wanted to be sure to get a camping spot - it’s a popular site). As we drove down the dirt road to the camp ground we were suddenly amongst a herd of steaming bison in the early morning sun...it was just amazing!

The actual camp ground itself is basic and is popular for tent camping.

It is next to Slough Creek (which is more like a river). Some of the campsites are right on the bank of the river - we think the nicest ones are 23 and 24. The only downside is that you can’t park right next to the picnic table and fire pit in these 2 campsites.

It is definitely a wild and a very real camping experience...a few days before we arrived a bear had been in the camp ground and there was a warning sign up on the notice board!

The nearby Slough Creek Trail leads to meadows and grizzlys are often seen here. We saw one. It was actually not that far away and was looking at us, which did cause my heart to stop momentarily...thankfully, he wasn't that interested and wandered off in the opposite direction.
