WHAT MAKES IT REAL?

LOCATION...

Yosemite National Park camping

This camp ground is in Yosemite National Park which makes it special enough. But it is also situated in a beautiful valley in amongst tall pine trees which offer protection from the rain and the sun.

Through the trees you can see the mountains on either side of the valley rising up and in the morning the tops of them glow orange from the rising sun.

Just a 2 minute walk out of Yosemite camping ground and you are in a glorious meadow or beside a river that reflects the mighty peaks in its calm waters.

Yosemite National Park camping

A lovely place to stay.....but book ahead as it is very popular. The best time to head out here is early spring or fall and stay away from weekends. To escape the crowds whilst hiking just walk a little way from the trail heads and you will find plenty of space just for your self!

It’s one of the more expensive State Parks camping grounds (for your 20 bucks you only get basic facilities and drinking water) but you are going to be camping in Yosemite National Park (and it's sooo beautiful)!

PRICE:

$20 (50% off with a Golden Age/Golden Access seniors card) for up to 2 vehicles and 8 people

SIZE:

238 campsites per Yosemite camping ground

OPENING TIMES:

All year

HOW TO BOOK:

Yosemite camping reservations can be made online at www.recreation.gov or by telephone on 1-877-444-6777.

Note:

The Ranger told us that most of the Yosemite camping grounds get booked up to five months ahead when the online Yosemite camping reservations service opens.

However, fear not, many people cancel and you should be able to get on a waiting list. Or, as in our case, we went online two days before and found that there were 3 campsites available. If you do this and find one available we recommend you book it immediately!!

Alternatively, there are a few first come first serve campgrounds. These usually fill by midday. If you still cannot find anywhere, try the Merced recreation area camp grounds on highway 140 coming in from Mariposa (N37.596504° W120.003677°).
